Dr. John DeCarlo

Dr. John DeCarlo is a board certified Ophthalmologist with specialty training in corneal and refractive surgery. A native New Yorker, he received his MD degree from Loyola Stritch School of Medicine in Chicago, and completed a residency program in Ophthalmology at the Kresge Eye Institute in Detroit. Following his residency he completed a two year clinical and research fellowship in corneal-external disease and refractive surgery. He is the founder of Cornea Consultants of Wisconsin. He has been a leading corneal transplant surgeon at St Joseph’s and St Luke’s medical center and has served as the Chief of Ophthalmology at St. Joseph Hospital since 2004.

Dr. DeCarlo is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Wisconsin Academy of Ophthalmology. He is also the former president of the Milwaukee Ophthalmological Society.

His research interest in infectious corneal ulcers has influenced his clinical decisions in the treatment of corneal ulcers over the past 20 years. As one of Southeastern Wisconsin’s most experienced transplant surgeons, he has mentored many of his colleagues in corneal transplant surgery.

Dr. DeCarlo combines a personal approach with a high level of experience. He and his wife, Kathy, have been involved in the Elm Grove community while raising their two daughters. They are active members of both local and national environmental organizations. He is an avid sailor and has competed in local and national regattas for many years.
